As world events unfold, God’s ways sometimes get lost in the noise. Sometimes, however, God will not be ignored. Through the prophet Elijah, God intervenes directly in Israel’s history to make His way clear. By reflecting on this historic intervention, we can discern God’s ways in our own chaotic time.

Wealth and possessions are often sources of pride. God breaks that connection sometimes to remind us that we are all ultimately dependent upon His provisions.

God has been speaking for generations through His prophets, but too often His people hear only words. Sometimes, however, God intervenes to show that His Word determines outcomes.

Fears are real when dangers are real. When these dangers overwhelm us, God reminds us that He is also real. His presence has the power to quiet our fears.
Week 4: When Injustice Reigns, 1 Kings 21:1-4, January 26, 2025
Stories of the rich robbing the poor pervade all cultures. In this story, God intervenes to show who really owns all things and who will ultimately have them.
Week 5: When We Are Outnumbered, 2 Kings 1:1-10, February 2, 2025
The odds often seem stacked against us. Goodness and truth have no chance against the vast power of misguided and broken leaders. Sometimes, however, God intervenes to remind us who ultimately decides who wins and who loses.
Week 6: When We Reach the End, 2 Kings 2:7-12, February 9, 2025
Death in many cultures is compared to a river that eventually we must all cross. God intervenes in the life of Elijah to show that He lives on both sides of that river, promising that one day we too will live with Him there beyond that river.
