Freedom through Faithful Meditation

WEDNESDAYS JAN 26 – MAR 23 9:00 AM in the Roser Chapel, with Pastor Dirk

Too often we allow regrets and worries to rob us of our joy in the present.  Faithful meditation provides a means to break our addiction to these negative thought patterns.   Faith brings an added dimension to this meditation, as we allow God’s truth to dispel the distortions and deceptions that cloud our thinking.  Join us for an eight-week experience designed to free us from fear, doubt and despair.

Week 1: Discovering Another Way (Jan 26, 2022)

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” Isaiah 26:3

Thoughts without a reliable anchor will drift into dangerous waters.  Racing, busy thoughts must be set aside by focusing on the present moment.

Week 2: Freedom from Worry (Feb 2, 2022)

“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Matthew 6:27

Tensions and contradictions disturb us when things are moving in an undesired direction.  We can stop those disturbances by shifting our thoughts to a sure and certain present.

Week 3: Freedom from Anger (Feb 9, 2022)

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.” James 1:19-20

Catch yourself when conversations and interactions with others are not going your way.  Pause to control the moment, rather than relinquishing control to emotional and physical reactions.

Break on Wednesday, Feb 16

Week 4: Freedom from Self-Judgement (Feb 22, 2022)

“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect.” 1 Corinthians 15:10a

We are held prisoner when we buy into someone else’s false version of ourselves, having no basis in who we truly are.  Pause to allow the grace of Christ to define you, rather than the false expectations of others.

Week 5: Freedom from Judging Others (Mar 2, 2022)

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Matthew 7:1-2

Judging others is a self-destructive habit.  We create tension for ourselves when we do not allow people to be who they are.  Capture critical thoughts and release them.  Allow people to walk their own path.

Week 6: Freedom from Regret (Mar 9, 2022)

“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:17

When we are tempted to define ourselves or allow others to define us by our failures, we must pause to allow Christ’s healing power to dispel these false definitions.  His saving power redeems our shortcomings, no matter how real or imagined.

Week 7: Freedom from Fear (Mar 16, 2022)

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27

Fear emerges when we cannot trust the outcome.  At first, it is a reaction to threat, but can easily become a fixed point of view.  When fear invades our thoughts focus on the Person who brings us peace, rather than the circumstances that generate fear

Week 8: Freedom from Despair (Mar 23, 2022)

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” John 10:27-28

When we find ourselves losing control, we can pause to envision ourselves in the strong hands of our eternal Shepherd.
