Special Music

SUN, OCT 15 ♦  Isaac Mingus – guest cellist, will provide special music. JoAnne Moyer – soloist with Chancel Choir at 10:00, accompanied by Isaac on cello and Joy Chatzistamatis on violin. Isaac Mingus is a cellist and bassist in the Sarasota/Bradenton area. He began playing the bass at the age of twelve under the tutelage of Christopher Mink at Pine View High School. Now twenty, he is a recent graduate of the State College of Florida with an Associate of Arts degree, where he was a student of Robyn Bell, John Miller, and Fred Gratta. He performs locally in numerous jazz ensembles, the Charlotte Symphony, and the Venice Symphony.

SUN, OCT 22 ♦ FELLOWSHIP SUNDAY  Roser Ringers Handbell Choir will play at the 8:30 Chapel Worship Service and 10:00 AM Worship Service in the Sanctuary. Roser Ringers invites you to the HANDBELL PETTING ZOO in the Narthex following the 10:00 service. Come on, you know you want to try them! Let us show you how easy it is to make beautiful music with no prior experience. If you fall in love there is space at our tables for you. Rehearsals are Wednesdays at 5:45 PM and rookies are welcome!

SUN, OCT 29 ♦  Mary Deur will play a flute solo at the 8:30 Chapel Worship Service and 10:00 AM Worship Service in the Sanctuary. Phyllis O’Keef and Kristen Stanton will play a piano/organ duet as the postlude to the 10:00 AM service.

SUN, JULY 2, 2017 ♦ JOY CHATZISTAMATIS – VIOLIN SOLIST
Born and raised in Sarasota, Florida, Joy Chatzistamatis began studying the violin at age three. Some of her earliest performances were playing at her church, local nursing homes, and Suzuki recitals. Since then, she has won the 2011 and 2013 Sarasota Orchestra’s Edward and Ida Wilkof Young Artists Solo Competition, earning an opportunity to solo with both orchestras. For eight years, she was a part of the Sarasota Orchestra Youth Orchestra Program and served as Concertmaster of the Youth Philharmonic. Summer music festivals are an integral part of a musician’s studies. Joy has been fortunate enough to attend the Flaine International Music Academy in France, the MasterWorks Festival in Winona lake, Indiana, and the CastelBarry Chamber music Festival in Montpeyroux, France. She was a student of the Sarasota Music Conservatory which was founded by her former teacher, Lena Cambis, whom she studied with for six years, and Sean O’Neil. Joy has performed in masterclasses for Chad Hoopes, Jessica Mathes, and David and Linda Cerone. She has also worked with Sarasota natives and world famous band, Boyce Avenue, recording multiple songs for them as well as a music video. A recent high school graduate, Joy now works for a local ad-tech company, AdRizer, but continues her music playing with the Venice Symphony and anywhere else her music takes her.

SUN JULY 9, 2017 ♦ YOVANNI ROSARIO – SAXOPHONE
Yovanni Rosario recently completed his junior year at Manatee High School. Born in Miami, he moved to Bradenton at the age of 4 when he began private piano lessons. In 5th grade he started playing alto saxophone. He has consistently received superior ratings at district and state Solo and Ensemble contests.

SADIE ELBERT, VOCAL SOLIST: Sadie Elbert is a 2017 graduate of Manatee School for the Arts and will attend Palm Beach Atlantic University in the fall. Sadie is the granddaughter of Marc and Mary Deur.
SUN AUG 20, 2017 ♦ KATHERINE HERBERT, VOCAL SOLOIST: Katherine (K.C.) Herbert’s passions include opera, the environment, and animals – especially dogs.  Katherine performed at the Sarasota Festival of Vocal Arts this past May and won a 2017 Suncoast Music Scholarship for voice.  Among Katherine’s other honors are second prize at the Schmidt Youth Vocal Competition and a 2017 scholarship for the summer Schmidt Vocal Institute in Oxford, OH. K.C. studies voice at the Sarasota Voice Academy and Diana Kaeding’s Vocal Arts Studio. She has been active in the Sarasota Youth Opera for eight years, performing in seven opera productions and singing as the principal artist in two.  Katherine also has performed in two Broadway musicals, playing Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof at Manatee Players Community Theater and Dorothy in Thoroughly Modern Millie at Manatee School for the Arts.  Katherine will be a senior at Booker High School in Sarasota where she is leading a project for water bottle water fountains.
SUN, SEPT 3 ♦ ERIN TRIBBLE, vocal soloist at 8:30 in the Roser Memorial Chapel or 10:00 AM in the Sanctuary. Many thanks to Erin Tribble for sharing her gift with us. Erin is a senior at the University of Central Florida, majoring in history, and works as a registrar at the Blake Hospital ER.
