OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD is a Samaritan’s Purse project that collects and delivers gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 150 countries and territories. Empty shoeboxes are filled with a “wow” item—like a doll or soccer ball—and other fun toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and notes of encouragement. ( The congregation at Roser Community Church begin preparing for this project in early September.

Sunday, October 8: The wrapped Shoeboxes are available in the Narthex and Chapel for you to take home and fill with gifts of toys, school supplies, hygiene items and notes of encouragement. Pick up a box (instructions are in the box), fill it and bring it back to the Narthex or church office by Sunday, November 5. The cost to deliver each box is $7.00. If you would like to help with the costs, please donate online at or make a check payable to Roser Community Church and mark it for Operation Christmas Child.

Shoebox dedication is Sunday, September 11. On the day of dedication the pastor prays over the filled boxes and blesses them. Following the service the BREd team and their helpers spring into action checking each box, making sure it is complete. They have a selection of extra items they can add to a box to be sure it is perfect for either a boy or girl in the appropriate age category and climate (e.g. scarfs and mittens as opposed to flip flops and sunglasses). They also check for undesired items like liquid, food (specially chocolate, which seems so appropriate, but can ruin the whole box), etc.

The perfectly packed gifts are then sealed, labeled and stacked for delivery to the local Operation Christmas Child gift collecting location. The Bernet family load them into their car and take great pleasure in making the delivery.

In 2016, 101 children received a shoebox full of Christmas gifts thanks to the generous congregation of Roser Community Church!

P.S. Everyone that fills a box is encouraged to include a note and/or a photo of themselves to personalize the gift.
