Friday, Feb 9 – What “Healthy” really means

What you’ll learn:

  • 5 rules for eating healthy
  • How to uncover the truth on food labels
  • Marketing tricks food companies use to get you to buy
  • Secret names for sugar hidden in your food

What you need to bring:

  • A food label from any food

Friday, Feb 16 – How many calories do I really need?

What you’ll learn:

  • Why you shouldn’t be scared to eat calories
  • How to calculate how many calories you need using the Harris-Benedict equation
  • Why your activity matters and how it factors into your calorie needs
  • How many grams of carbs, protein, and fat your body needs based on recommendations by the USDA

What you need to bring:

  • A calculator (the one on your phone will work!)

Friday, Feb 23 – Choosing the best carbs

What you’ll learn:

  • Why carbs are not the enemy
  • What makes some carbs better for you than others
  • How to choose the RIGHT carbs

Friday, March 2 – Probiotics & Gut Health

What you’ll learn:

  • Why gut health is so important
  • The difference between probiotics and prebiotics
  • Choosing the best foods to increase the healthy bacteria in your gut
  • What to look for when choosing a probiotic supplement

Friday, March 9 – Healthy Pot-luck and Recipe Swap

What you’ll experience:

  • Great food!
  • Based on the information covered in the previous 4 lessons, each member is asked to bring a healthy dish to share, along with the recipe.
  • While enjoying the delicious food, each person will explain the details of his or her dish.
  • At the end of the class, everyone will have their own binder full of new healthy recipes.
