A Christmas Carol Gallery
Christmas carols are some of the most beloved folk songs in western history. Drawing upon this rich resource, composer Larry Shackley has created a musical tapestry titled A Christmas Carol Gallery.
The cantata is comprised of four suites, each a portrait of a portion of the Christmas story: Advent preparation, the angels’ announcement, Jesus’ birth, and the celebration of Christmas morning.
The cantata will be performed by the Cantata Choir, Joyful Noise Children’s Choir, and a small orchestra of flute, clarinet, piano and bass. Everyone will join in singing a carol at the end of each suite… “Joy to the World!”, “O Come, All ye Faithful”, O Holy Night”, “Silent Night! Holy Night!”, and “The First Noel, the Angel Did Say”.
The suites are woven together with narration drawn from the writings of Max Lucado; Mark Morris will serve as narrator. Come experience the warmth and hope of the Christmas season through beloved carols passed down through the ages.
